Girls on the Run Greater Richmond Executive Director, Catherine Estevez recieves Champions of Mentoring Award

Mentorship in Motion: Champions of Mentoring Award

When Girls on the Run participants lace up their sneakers, they’re preparing for much more than a run — they’re stepping into a season of mentorship, confidence, and connection.

We’re proud to share that Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond has been named a recipient of the MENTOR Virginia 2025 Champions of Mentoring Award! This recognition celebrates organizations that are transforming lives and strengthening communities through the power of mentorship — something that’s at the heart of everything we do.

From words of encouragement on the track to the quiet moments of confidence built after practice, our volunteer coaches show up to help every girl see her strength and believe in her potential.

Read the full story to see how connection is woven into every mile, learn more about the volunteers behind the movement, and find out how you can join us at our Fall 5K Celebration on November 16 to witness mentorship in motion.

Running on Confidence: Our 2024 Impact Report

"When a Girls on the Run participant crosses the 5K finish line, she confidently raises her arms, takes a deep breath, and celebrates the achievement with her team, family members, and friends. As we reflect on the last year, this experience aptly describes how we feel at Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond."

Fueling the Future: GOTR Honored with New Richmond Award

Did you know that one of our council's very first teams was William Fox Elementary in the city of Richmond? It was a small group of just 7 girls, but it ignited a spark that has since grown thanks to the dedicated support of educators, administrators, and community members.

And that growth does not stop here! As we look to expand our reach beyond the hundreds of girls served across the city of Richmond, we are thrilled to announce that we are one of 12 honorees through the inaugural Heart of Richmond Awards.
