Richmond, VA--- Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond, an after-school program that gets girls running and inspires individuals of all abilities to recognize their unique strengths, has announced empowerment programming for the school year, along with a panel event to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond’s fall program season kicked off with over 330 girls registered at 20 school-based and community teams across greater Richmond. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident.

“Girls on the Run is about empowering girls to be their best selves,” says Catherine Estevez, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond. “GOTR is a space for kids to be active, build their confidence and feel a sense of belonging during a critical stage in their life.”

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023, Girls on the Run has served over 3,000 youth across Richmond City, Henrico, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Petersburg, and Powhatan in that time. The life-changing program has research-based lessons that use dynamic discussions and fun running games to teach life skills. The season will culminate with a 5K event that brings together family, friends and community members to celebrate the girls’ growth throughout the season. That 5K event is open to the public and will take place at Bryan Park on Sunday, November 19.

Girls on the Run’s transformational programs are made possible by the tremendous commitment of hundreds of volunteer coaches, school partners, donors, and supporters including the Junior League, Virginia Women’s Center, Cigna, Synergy Technical, Rite Aid Healthy Futures, MyEyeDr., Virginia State University, and others.

Girls on the Run will also host a 10th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, October 26. Sponsored by Sherah, this event will showcase the inspiring stories of accomplished women from diverse backgrounds who have realized their limitless potential. Panelists include Aliyah Hoye, Adrienne Wright, Faby Helme, Jay Ell Alexander, and Keira D'Amato.
